Hi, everybody! Welcome to Rowan’s Report, the column that aims to inform the wider student body of what’s going on with the SGA. We understand that our meetings and responsibilities generally remain a mystery to those beyond our SGA group, and we see a lack of transparency as a big problem considering our job is to represent every student voice. We hope that this section will allow our community to feel included in the SGA effort.
What the SGA has been up to so far:
- Multiple Class Reps are excited to select their class councils for the upcoming school year!
- Jon and Phoebe are working to tweak the DC process by always having either a Day Monitor or a Boarding Monitor sit in every DC meeting.
- The SGA widely agrees that later buses should be available for Day Students, as the buses would totally improve Day Student turnout at SAA events.
- We have had multiple open discussions about the fate of Stables next year.
- Sam and Laura (Class II Reps) are interested in finding a digital solution to assembly check-in.
- The Day Monitors are interested in moving some pastries and coffee/tea into the Stu every morning, so that day students will always be able to grab some food before heading to class.
Overall, we are dedicated to making positive changes that will make student life smoother and less stressful. As everyone settles into their new SGA roles, we also have put an emphasis on the importance of bonding as a group. Through “check in questions,” we discovered that more than three SGA members consider Good Will Hunting to be their favorite movie of all time. Although we are not sure what this suggests about our group, we look forward to implementing more lighthearted activities during our meetings in order to grow closer to each other.
