Athletic Director Lamar Reddicks is an organizer, an athlete, an advocate, a coach, and a father. He works tirelessly every day to improve student-athletes’ performance and well-being. As the coach of the Boys' Varsity Basketball team, he ensures that every game runs smoothly and that everyone is able to play to the best of their ability. As Athletic Director, he oversees team schedules, hires coaches, purchases uniforms, schedules game fields, and arranges transportation. He also attends annual and monthly meetings for NEPSAC and the ISL. A former basketball player himself, Reddicks still works like he’s in season, starting his day with a 6:00 am workout before most students wake up. Throughout the school day, he meets with parents, coaches, and students, attends meetings, and completes a wide range of responsibilities.
Reddicks, a member of the administration team, attends organizational meetings throughout the day. Once the school day ends, he offers extra support to students by keeping his door open for “kids who are walking by and…want to come in and talk to me about anything in the world—whether it’s nothing or something totally related to their sport.” Even if a student doesn’t need to talk, Reddicks leaves a candy jar available for anyone who wants to stop by. He watches various teams’ practices and games. He mentioned that on “a typical game day, I could be starting off watching…a varsity game, and work my way down to a middle school or freshman or JV game” simply because he loves watching athletes compete.
Reddicks knew as early as his junior year that he wanted to become a basketball coach and athletic director. He was inspired by his own coach and athletic director, whom he saw as mentors and role models. He has since followed in their footsteps, serving as both the Boys' Varsity Basketball coach and Athletic Director. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “Here I am living out my dream.” Every day, he does everything in his power to support each team and athlete—not only by fulfilling his responsibilities, but also by going above and beyond to make games special.
To manage the demands of his many roles, Reddicks emphasized the importance of teamwork. He explained, “I have a great team that supports me and all the things that we do—no way I can do it by myself.” His team includes Administrative Assistant Sheila Egan and two Assistant Athletic Directors, Molly Purcell, both of whom play a crucial role in ensuring the athletics program runs smoothly. Their support allows Reddicks to coach the varsity boys’ basketball team while also cheering on his own children, who play competitive sports.
Together, Reddicks and his team strive to ensure that every athlete feels seen, heard, and able to reach their full potential. He shared, “We have some amazing kids, but we also have some amazing athletes, and watching them do what they do on their playing fields is really an awesome thing.” Reddicks added, “When we see them leave here and go on to do phenomenal things, which many of them have, that’s a really big part of this whole experience.”
Reddicks clearly loves his job and shows up each day ready to give his best. He gets to see “kids…doing what they love to do” and “coaches who love to coach those sports.”
Reddicks has made it a personal goal to get to know as many people as he can, which allows him to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives. His work has helped create a strong sense of community within the athletics department—one that might not exist otherwise. Reddicks’ dedication has impacted countless students, including Haley Medley ’26, who stated that “Mr. Reddicks door is always open to all students regardless of if they're an athlete or not.”
