On Sunday, May 17, Boys’ Varsity Baseball overpowered Tabor with a score of 7-0 and finished off their season crowned as the 2026 ISL Champions. Yet, only weeks earlier, the idea of Milton making a championship run seemed implausible. Through a confident, reliant team bonded in a uniquely Milton way, Varsity Baseball cemented the 2026 season into Mustang history.
Throughout the Spring season, Milton Baseball demonstrated flashes of dominance against some of the toughest teams in the ISL, with notable victories against Lawrence Academy and Brooks; however, as Jack Serafini ’27 describes, the team also faced some “pretty bad losses,” including a loss against Governors Academy.
However, what truly defines the Milton Baseball Team’s spirit is how the team rebounds. Deacon Evriviades ’27 emphasizes that the team’s atmosphere thrives off a group referred to as the “bench mobs,” dominated by Jake Farley ’27 and Lachlan Quinn ’26. After the tough loss against the Governors, Quinn stated “the energy [shifted].” Since then, Evriviades described a team that never looked back, “stacking [only] good days upon another until [we reached our] peak.” The team clinched a ticket to the playoffs after a win against Lawrence Academy; this ticket granted the team a first round game against Roxbury Latin and quickly led to one of the most defining moments of Milton’s postseason run. Headed in as the sixth seed, the Mustangs were viewed as the underdogs; however, playing at their best form all season, the team felt that they had as good a chance as anyone else did.
Locked neck and neck entering the seventh inning, the game was impossibly tense. With the game heading into its dying minutes, Brendan O’Toole ’29 was eventually able to bring home the game-winning run, securing a 7-6 win for the Mustangs. Johnny Bordes ’28 explained that, in that moment, after beating Roxbury Latin and checking the other playoff game results, “seeing that the top four seeds all had upsets sparked a sense that we really could do something.” What once felt like an uncertain postseason run, soon transformed into a legitimate belief of making Mustang history.
Evident in their dominant 9-0 victory over Thayer, this confidence seemed to only grow. When entering the final game against Tabor, the team felt pressure at an all-time high, and yet, after the first inning, the Mustangs found themselves up with a score of 3-0. Bordes described that the dominant lead “made all the energy shift in our favor, and from there, it was just smooth sailing.”
Despite putting in tremendous work throughout the season, the team never forgot to have a good time. When asked to describe the team in one word, Bordes couldn’t help but think about “friendship,” and joked that the team became ISL Champions through “the power of friendship.” Evriviades claimed that the team never lost one game when eating at Dave’s Hot Chicken beforehand. Yet beneath all the jokes and dugout traditions lies a group of individuals who genuinely believe in and love each other. Milton Baseball won the 2026 ISL Championship through their energy in the dugout, confidence after failure, and culture of resilience. What began as a season in clouded uncertainty ultimately ended in the Mustangs making history together.
