Symposium Showcases Computer Science to Mandatory and Voluntary Audiences

On Monday, May 4, 150-200 students, faculty, and community members gathered on the first floor of the Farokhzad Math Center for the Computer Science (CS) Symposium, a mandatory event for all computer science students, with students in a non-level-one class required to present. CS students of all levels, including middle school representatives, presented their work from the year. According to CS teacher May Blair, the Symposium aimed to provide an opportunity for “all of our computer science students… to show off the work they’ve put in this year… that they’re really excited about.”

Day of Silence Receives Mixed Student Reactions

On Friday, April 10, Milton Academy held a school-wide march during the Day of Silence, which seeks to address the silencing of LGBTQ+ youth in schools. Since 1996—when the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) first organized the event—schools across the U.S. have observed the occasion to spread awareness about those lost or silenced by homophobia or transphobia.

Combined Role Seeks to Combat Lower School Administrative Turnover

The 2026-2027 academic year will begin with a new Lower School Principal–the result of an involved search process that began last summer. However, the incoming principal will be a familiar face: current Middle School Principal Steven Bertozzi will be taking on a new, combined role as Lower and Middle School Principal, as announced to the Lower School community on January 5.

Community “Tries to Roll With” Special Schedules

During the week of October 13, students and teachers navigated a markedly different schedule than the typical Orange Week. Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Community Engagement Day/PSAT Day disrupted normal routines, causing shortened class times and necessitating numerous Google Calendar checks per day. However, Academic Dean Heather Sugrue, who handles much of the planning of special schedules, identified the changes as necessary for the “continuity of work in classes, as well as maintaining other key components of the week.”

On Friday, September 5th, students, teachers, and families gathered on the Quad for a new event hosted by the Student Activities Association (SAA): Quadchella. The event offered games, a food cart with popcorn, cotton candy, and snow cones, and stations for t-shirt decorating, glitter, photobooths, and temporary tattoos. Over the course of the evening, the bands The Undecided, Cenier Street Swingers, and Clockwork Boston performed for the crowd.
